CHAINSAWS GALLERY

When Jim Downs began selling chainsaws in 1958, his first brand was Remington. When import restrictions limited numbers of one make he added Homelite to the range; after Remington discontinued production, he switched to McCullochs, selling these in large numbers.

Jim was instrumental in establishing Stihl chainsaws in the Auckland area, after adding the brand in 1977.

109 of the chainsaws in this exhibition were restored by Jim and his staff at J Downs Ltd. The Kauri Museum purchase these in 1992 after his retirement.
