Museum Redevelopment 2021-2022

One of the key parts of the redevelopment project is in the Ross Wing. The project includes the refurbishment of both levels. Once new lighting and climate control is in place, the 5,000 piece kauri gum collection will be moved to the upper level to improve access and display conditions; the lower level will become our exciting new Science & Discovery Centre.

The building redevelopment is being supported by a $3 million grant from the Provincial Development Unit. The grant was awarded last year, as part of a multi-phase development of the Museum. Funds from Lotteries Environment & Development and Lotteries  Communities are also contributing to the work.
